Competency-Based Medical Assistant Training Programs
The Medical Assistant program at A Plus Healthcare Training is a 600-hour, competency-based program designed to prepare the student for an entry-level position as an MA (medical assistant). MA’s perform routine administrative and clinical tasks within a medical office setting. MA’s perform administrative duties such as answer telephones, greet patients, escort patients to exam rooms, updating medical records, scheduling appointments, and handling insurance and billing procedures among others.
At A Plus Healthcare Training
Emphasis is placed on the clinical and administrative skills necessary to perform personal care to complex patients with the needs of respiratory services, rehabilitation services, EKG, and Phlebotomy services. Upon successful completion of this program at A Plus Healthcare Training, students will receive a certificate of completion and will be eligible for National Certification through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Students who successfully complete the Basic Nursing Assistant portion of the program will be eligible to take the state exam in addition to the NHA exam. The Medical Assistant training program will provide the necessary training and skills required to pass the NHA Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) examination. This program requires the completion of 600-course hours. Students with a prior Basic Nursing Assistant certificate may complete 480 hours. All course hours are inclusive of clinical internship or externship.

Prepare and Assist With Medical Examinations
Take Blood Pressure and Body Temperatures
Apply Sterile Dressings
Prepare Patients for X-Rays
Perform Various Injections
Perform Peripheral IVs
Care and Safety of Patients, Medical and Legal Aspects, and Work Ethics
Administer Oral Medications
Aseptic Technique and Infection Prevention
Instruct Patients on Proper Usage of Medications
Vital Signs and Documentation
Update Patient Medical Files
Phlebotomy Including Venipuncture and Capillary Sampling
Take Patient Medical Histories
Collecting Non-Blood Specimens and Point Of Care Testing
Performing 12 Lead EKGs, EKG Strip Analysis (P, Q, R, S, T Wave Form)
Admission/Eligibility Requirements
At least 18 years old and has a high school diploma or equivalent
Must be free of any communicable disease
View patients in a holistic approach to improving their quality of life
Must be able to multitask and possess critical thinking abilities
Healthcare worker criminal background check
